Can you make a certified plant nutrient product out of domestic waste?

In the H + area of Helsingborg, plans are being made to implement a three-pipe system for wastewater in the properties. This would allow for the separation of lavatory water, grey water (bath, shower and laundry) as well as food waste. The food waste fraction would support biogas production. The city of Helsingborg aims to investigate whether it is possible to make a plant nutrient product of the residual waste from biogas production and, if so, whether the product can be certified.

The report highlights that this is a complicated question, and that this could require a re-evaluation of the regulations governing such products. If such issues were to be addressed, household waste could be redefined as a resource.
